Quick Shirt Redo

So I had this shirt.
I wasn't loving the ruffly sleeves.
And it was a bit too wide.
So I cut off the sleeves and took it in. And then I cleaned the mirror. I was going to blame the bad pictures on the fact that it's a really old mirror and has some spots, but I didn't think I could pass off fingerprints as "age spots."
Ah, much better! The shirt, I mean. I guess that's about as good as the mirror gets. (And do I always look that white? I'm going to have to blame that on the mirror/lighting as well.)
My sewing machine didn't totally freak out this time when I tried to sew a knit fabric (yay!). I just took it pretty slow. What can you save from your Goodwill pile??

  1. All I can say is...Wow. I am still terrified of my sewing machine and redoing a shirt seems daunting! I'll be stopping by your blog for more inspiration, and maybe, just maybe, I'll get up the nerve to break out my machine soon.

PS - thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. would love for you to become a regular follower. http://www.thetallchick.blogspot.com/

  3. I love your tale of the good will shirt with a happily ever after ending. I think there are some shirts in my closet that could benefit from your awesome idea. Thanks for sharing. Found you on 'Lil Luna - oh yeah and following you now :)

  4. Did you just sew up the sides inside out and then trim off the excess?

  5. Yes - I just sewed up the sides while the shirt was inside out using a 3/4 inch seam allowance. And to be honest, I didn't even trim the excess :) There's just a little extra fabric on the inside now. When I did the sleeves I cut the excess off first then folded the cut edge under and sewed it in place (kind of like hemming but on the sleeve). Thanks so much for all of your comments!
